Job description
APM Terminals

Overall responsible for the project management relating to APMT Yokohama including investment proposal for equipment and facility, yard expansion, deregulation, optimization of the capacity and decarbonization (electrification of the equipment) etc.

  • Concession Extension: Drive strategies and negotiations to secure terminal concession renewal and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Asset Management: Collaborate with the asset management company to best optimize asset lifecycle planning and deliver on the Yokohama AM strategy.
  • Operational Optimization: Support projects that enhance capacity, efficiency, and service quality across terminal operations.
  • Sustainability: Champion decarbonization initiatives and integrate sustainable technologies into operations. having regular contacts with senior managements of various central/ municipal governments, private sectors relating to APMTJ business such as MLIT, Yokohama Harbor Bureau, YKIP, 6 stevedoring companies (their sub-contracted companies) and vendors etc.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with government authorities, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Financial Stewardship: Manage budgets and P&L to ensure cost control and responsible investment. Responsible for project related budget, P&L and balance sheet and closely collaborate finance relating matters with CFO. – in conjunction with CEO/CFO plan/ prepare CAPEX proposal (equipment replacement plan etc).
  • Strategic Contribution: Support senior leadership in decision-making and act as deputy CEO when required.

 

CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field; MBA or equivalent preferred.
  • 10+ years in port operations, infrastructure projects, or terminal management.
  • General shipping knowledge (liner trade, shipping line operation/ commercial activities, documentation, etc). Preferred having complicated Japanese water front knowledge.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Good stakeholder management/ communication skills in English. Japanese knowledge is an advantage.
  • Proven track record in concession negotiations and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong exposure to asset management and operational optimization.
  • Strategic thinking and financial acumen (budgeting, P&L).
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and decarbonization initiatives.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and act as deputy CEO when required.
