Job description
At DEME, we empower you to shape your own career journey. Driven by our values We Care, We Dare, We Deliver, we foster teamwork, innovation, and a shared commitment to delivering impactful projects that make a real difference.

For DEME Building Materials (DBM), we are looking for a Project Engineer / Planner who combines strong analytical capabilities with excellent communication skills. In this role, you will be the vital link between operational activities on board our vessels and the planning, coordination and preparation activities carried out from the office.

This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges, improving processes, building strong stakeholder relationships and taking ownership in a dynamic operational environment. You will work closely with colleagues, customers, ship crews and external partners to ensure efficient and effective project execution.

While the role is primarily office-based, regular visits to vessels, shipyards and customer sites will give you valuable insight into operations and help you continuously optimize planning processes and operational performance.

Your responsibilities

  • Act as the connecting link between vessel operations and office-based planning and coordination activities.

  • Develop, monitor and optimize operational schedules to ensure efficient resource utilization and project execution.

  • Analyze operational data, identify bottlenecks and propose practical solutions to improve processes and performance.

  • Coordinate with vessel crews, project teams, customers and other stakeholders to align priorities and ensure smooth operations.

  • Visit vessels, shipyards and customer locations to gain operational insights, strengthen collaboration and support continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Proactively communicate with customers and stakeholders, challenging assumptions when necessary and proposing alternative solutions that better meet operational requirements.

  • Anticipate operational changes and respond quickly to unexpected developments.

  • Contribute to the implementation and optimization of digital tools, AI-driven applications and planning software.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation (typically 1-2 weekends per month) to support operational planning outside normal office hours when required.

  • Drive a culture of ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Your profile

  • You hold a Master's degree (civil engineering, industrial engineering, bio-engineering,...)

  • You are a strong analytical thinker who enjoys working in a structured and systematic way.

  • You can quickly understand complex situations and translate them into practical, workable solutions.

  • You are proactive and take initiative. You are not afraid to pick up the phone, challenge expectations and engage stakeholders to find better alternatives.

  • You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and can build strong relationships across different levels of the organization.

  • You are solution-oriented, resilient and able to perform well in a dynamic operational environment.

  • You have a genuine interest in innovation, AI applications and optimization software.

  • Experience as a Project Engineer, Project Controls Engineer or in a planning-related role is an advantage, but not a requirement.

  • You are fluent in Dutch and English.

  • You are willing to participate in an on-call duty system, including occasional weekend support.

Our offer

  • An extensive mobility program for a healthy work-life balance;

  • A permanent training track which allows you to develop yourself personally and professionally;

  • A stimulating, innovative workplace with numerous growth opportunities;

  • A people-oriented environment with an interactive health program and a focus on employee wellbeing.
