About the Position

The Project Engineer – Heavy Civil will support the Project Management team with critical administrative and operational responsibilities related to construction projects. This role plays an essential part in coordinating project documentation, scheduling, procurement, cost tracking, and communication between field teams, subcontractors, and clients.

The Project Engineer will assist in ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements while supporting the project lifecycle from planning through completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Estimate quantities and costs of materials, equipment, and labor to support project planning and feasibility analysis
  • Review and analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other technical data to support project planning
  • Follow the company’s Project Design Process and maintain planning documentation, tracking boards, and related project records
  • Assist with development and maintenance of project schedules in collaboration with estimators, schedulers, and field supervision
  • Support coordination of project milestones, delivery timelines, and critical path activities
  • Interface with clients regarding project deliverables and communicate updates to the Project Manager and field teams
  • Assist field superintendents with safety plans, quality standards, and construction logistics
  • Support development of project execution strategies aligned with management and client expectations
  • Review monthly project estimates prior to client submission
  • Prepare and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) and assist with change orders and submittals
  • Audit weekly payroll recaps and ensure proper cost coding and project cost tracking
  • Provide oversight and coordination for subcontractors and suppliers
  • Participate in project review meetings covering productivity, materials, equipment, costs, and schedules
  • Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure timely and successful project completion

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field required
  • 5+ years of experience as a Project Engineer or similar role within civil construction
  • Experience in public roadway projects and private development preferred
  • Strong understanding of construction technologies, equipment, and methods
  • Knowledge of cost control, project scheduling, and construction safety practices
  • Experience reviewing engineering documents, drawings, and technical specifications
