Job Description:

Work schedule: Monday – Friday; 11:00 pm to 7:30 am (3rd shift)

Summary: Under general supervision, performs journey-level preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of packaging equipment and systems, and conducts line changeovers and mechanical set-up of all equipment in accordance with packaging schedule.

• Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and state, federal and local laws.

• Conducts required monthly preventative maintenance on all packaging equipment.

• Performs troubleshooting and repairs of packaging and processing equipment and mechanical and control systems.

• Performs scheduled and other maintenance of all packaging equipment.

• Performs packaging line set-ups and changeovers, when needed or required.

• Complies with all company equipment, safety, OSHA rules and regulations.

• Complies with all company policies and procedures.

• Maintains maintenance work areas in a clean and orderly manner.

• Supports department goals for output and efficiencies.

• Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of:

• Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other regulatory requirements.

• Packaging and processing equipment operations and maintenance practices.

• Standard Operating Procedures for equipment operations including safety rules and regulations.

• Preventative maintenance programs and techniques.

• Electrical and pneumatic control systems.

• Mechanical aptitude and mathematics.

• Troubleshooting minor problems with packaging equipment.

Skill in:

• Complying with all Company policies and procedures.

• Complying with all Company safety rules and regulations, recognizing hazards and taking appropriate corrective action.

• Analyzing and troubleshooting problems with packaging equipment, identifying solutions, recommending and implementing methods, procedures, and/or techniques for resolution.

• Performing all packaging line set-ups and changeovers.

• Responding immediately to department needs and emergencies.

• Performing preventative maintenance on all packaging equipment.

• Maintaining a clean and orderly work area.

• Understanding and following written and oral instructions.

• Reading, writing and speaking English.

• Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

• Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with individuals contacted in the course of work.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Incumbents in this class are subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, pushing and pulling, stooping and crouching climbing and walking, vision to monitor, occasional lifting of equipment or materials weighing up to 50-70 pounds. OSHA Medical Evaluation Required.

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent, supplemented by hands-on or vocational school training, and minimum of one (1) or more years as a Set-Up Mechanic in a manufacturing environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
