Job Description

 

The process engineer is responsible for improving the efficiency of the manufacturing process and managing small equipment modification projects. These operations process flat, fiber cement boards (building materials used as underlayment or siding) through a variety of coating, cutting, trimming, inspecting, stacking, packing and warehousing steps on heavy duty conveying systems.

 

You will be based out of our Peru, Ill plant and report to the Engineering Manager, You will spend the majority of your time working as part of central technical team and closely with the area managers, maintenance managers, mechanical and electrical technicians and machine operators across the Companies network to implement process improvements and determine additional opportunities.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES :

 

Process Improvement /Material Handling

Utilizing good product flow theory combined with material handling knowledge to optimize the machines by:

Removing non-value added activities and movements for both machines and people

Understanding PLC logic and working with appropriate programmers to improve the logic and reduce or remove unnecessary gaps and timing to improve product flow and increase throughput

Developing and implementing plans that reduce machine stops, downtime, and scrap

Developing and implementing coatings yield initiatives

Networking with other engineers in all plants to freely share best practices

Develop measures for machine health and leading indicators to be deployed across the network

Improve and manage standard work tools and approach for man machine interfaces

 

QUALIFICATIONS :

 

Ability to perform basic mechanical design of equipment and/or modifications including, but not limited to: conveyor modifications, pulley/shaft modifications, motor & gear sizing, pump sizing, etc.

 

Light structural design and modification of existing components such as lever arms, cylinder travel/mounting, etc.

 

Demonstrated ability to effectively take action to solve problems while exhibiting sound judgment and successful stress tolerance.

 

Demonstrated ability to act independently upon information and make decisions that achieve optimal results.

 

Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.

 

Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing Principles, SPC and Theory of Constraints (preferred).

 

Demonstrated intermediate skills with the standard features of various personal computer word processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, and other proprietary software).

 

Demonstrated knowledge of skills on AutoCAD, Solidworks, and other design applications

 

Demonstrated knowledge of Minitab SPC software (preferred)

 

Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE :

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (electrical, mechanical, NO CHEMICAL PLEASE )

 

2 or more years in a manufacturing environment

 

Experience in troubleshooting manufacturing processes on 24/7 continuous, equipment paced line flow operations
