We are seeking an experienced Principal Privacy & Data Protection Consultant to lead enterprise privacy transformation initiatives and help organizations implement robust data protection programs aligned with evolving regulatory requirements. This role is ideal for a hands-on privacy professional who combines deep regulatory expertise with technical understanding, enabling organizations to design, implement, and operationalize privacy frameworks across complex application ecosystems.

You will work closely with business leaders, engineering teams, security stakeholders, and compliance partners to deliver implementation-ready privacy solutions, conduct technical assessments, and establish scalable governance practices. In addition to leading client engagements, you will contribute to methodology development, mentor team members, and help build a high-performing privacy consulting practice.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end privacy and data protection engagements, from assessment through implementation and governance.
  • Conduct application-level privacy gap assessments aligned with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023, and other global privacy regulations.
  • Develop implementation-ready privacy deliverables, including:
    • Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs)
    • Records of Processing Activities (RoPA)
    • Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
    • Privacy notices and consent workflows
    • Technical safeguard mapping
  • Analyze application architectures, APIs, databases, and system integrations to identify privacy risks and recommend remediation strategies.
  • Map personal data flows across enterprise systems and identify consent collection points, processing activities, and downstream data usage.
  • Recommend appropriate Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs), including encryption, masking, anonymization, tokenization, and synthetic data, based on data sensitivity and regulatory requirements.
  • Advise organizations on implementing privacy controls, consent management, data subject rights processes, cross-border data transfer mechanisms, and governance frameworks.
  • Collaborate with engineering, security, and architecture teams to integrate privacy requirements into application design and development lifecycles.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments across regulated industries such as banking, healthcare, telecom, insurance, digital media, and public sector organizations.
  • Work alongside external privacy consultants or independently lead client engagements where required.
  • Present privacy strategies, implementation roadmaps, and assessment findings to senior stakeholders, including Data Protection Officers (DPOs), CISOs, and executive leadership.
  • Develop reusable methodologies, assessment templates, implementation frameworks, and best practices to improve delivery consistency.
  • Mentor junior consultants and contribute to building and scaling the privacy consulting practice.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • 10–12+ years of experience in Privacy, Data Protection, Compliance, or related consulting roles with strong implementation expertise.
  • Demonstrated progression from an individual contributor to leadership responsibilities involving team management, methodology development, or practice building.
  • Strong practitioner-level knowledge of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023, including:
    • Consent management
    • Data Principal rights
    • Cross-border data transfer requirements
    • Significant Data Fiduciary obligations
    • Notice requirements and multilingual compliance
  • Working knowledge of global privacy regulations such as GDPR and CCPA.
  • Hands-on experience preparing Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs), DPIAs, processing registers, privacy notices, and technical privacy documentation.
  • Solid understanding of application architecture, APIs, databases, cloud platforms, and enterprise data flows.
  • Ability to assess privacy risks across complex technology environments and recommend practical implementation approaches.
  • Strong understanding of Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) and appropriate application across different categories of personal data.
  • Experience conducting privacy assessments within regulated industries such as BFSI, healthcare, telecom, insurance, government, or digital media.
  • Excellent consulting, stakeholder management, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or building teams of privacy and compliance professionals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience implementing privacy programs across multiple enterprise organizations.
  • Familiarity with privacy compliance platforms and automation tools.
  • Knowledge of sector-specific regulatory requirements across financial services, healthcare, telecom, insurance, or government.
  • Experience working alongside engineering and security teams to embed privacy-by-design principles into technology solutions.
  • Professional certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, ISO 27701 Lead Implementer, PCDPO, DCPLA, DCDPO, or equivalent privacy credentials are highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical implementation strategies.
