The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Principal Software Developer  to provide technical leadership for the Email Channel of our Messaging Channels Platform. In this role, you will define the technical architecture, lead the design and development of enterprise-scale messaging capabilities, and establish engineering best practices for a cloud-native communication platform.

You will work closely with Product Management, Architects, Development, Security, and Cloud Operations to deliver highly available, secure, and scalable messaging solutions capable of processing millions of email transactions every day.

  • Providing technical leadership and architectural direction for enterprise messaging solutions.
  • Designing and developing highly scalable, resilient, and cloud-native email delivery platforms.
  • Leading technical design discussions and driving engineering best practices across multiple teams.
  • Building reliable SMTP-based messaging services with high availability, performance, and observability.
  • Solving complex email delivery and infrastructure challenges, including deliverability, routing, security, and performance optimization.
  • Driving architectural decisions, establishing engineering standards, and influencing the long-term technical roadmap.
  • Mentoring senior developers and fostering technical excellence across the organization.
  • Collaborating effectively with Product Management, Architects, Engineering, Security, DevOps, and Cloud Operations to deliver high-quality enterprise software.

What it takes

  • 15+ years of software engineering experience with significant experience designing distributed enterprise applications.
  • Deep expertise in enterprise email technologies, including SMTP, KumoMTA, Postfix, PowerMTA, Exim, or similar Message Transfer Agents (MTAs).
  • Strong understanding of email protocols and standards, including SMTP, MIME, DSN, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, SMTP AUTH, STARTTLS/TLS, and DNS (MX, TXT, PTR).
  • Experience designing and operating high-volume email delivery platforms, including message routing, queue management, retry mechanisms, bounce processing, suppression management, sender reputation, IP warming, throttling, and ISP-specific delivery optimization.
  • Strong programming experience in Java, Python, or Rust (preferred) with expertise in concurrent programming, asynchronous processing, and network programming.
  • Experience building cloud-native microservices using Docker, Kubernetes, REST APIs, and event-driven architectures leveraging Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging technologies.
  • Experience with public cloud platforms including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Knowledge of enterprise messaging platforms, messaging middleware, and event streaming technologies.
  • Experience designing and building multi-tenant SaaS platforms, with strong understanding of tenant isolation, scalability, security, and high availability.
  • Strong knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
  • Experience with observability technologies including Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and ELK/OpenSearch.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Infrastructure as Code, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Excellent debugging, performance tuning, and troubleshooting skills for distributed systems.
  • Strong communication, technical leadership, mentoring, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent discipline.
