Platform Engineer

Job description

A career in IBM Consulting is built on long-term client relationships and close collaboration worldwide. You’ll work with leading companies across industries, helping them shape their hybrid cloud and AI journeys. With support from our strategic partners, robust IBM technology, and Red Hat, you’ll have the tools to drive meaningful change and accelerate client impact. At IBM Consulting, curiosity fuels success. You’ll be encouraged to challenge the norm, explore new ideas, and create innovative solutions that deliver real results. Our culture of growth and empathy focuses on your long-term career development while valuing your unique skills and experiences.

IBM Consulting prefers to show, not tell, co-creating with clients in real time to solve their hardest hybrid cloud and AI challenges. As a Platform Engineer in our Hybrid Cloud & AI practice, you'll lead from the front: the technical face of the engagement, the hands-on builder who sets direction, and the mentor who lifts the squad around you.

You'll lead client builds across OpenShift (OCP), AWS, Azure, and GCP — taking pilots to enterprise-scale deployment at start-up speed, as part of a multi-disciplinary team of Forward Deployment Architects, Forward Deployment Engineers, and Business/Sales Technology Leaders.

Your role and responsibilities: Your typical day as a Platform Engineer may look like:

- Leading client co-creation sessions across public and hybrid cloud — OCP, AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes — and being the hands-on builder who proves the solution. Setting the technical direction for delivery: architecture, security baselines, GitOps, and IaC standards the squad builds to.

- Shaping the AI platform approach — model serving, GPU capacity, agentic runtimes, and the governance controls regulated workloads demand. Acting as the trusted technical advisor to client stakeholders, communicating differentiated value both technically and commercially.

- Mentoring engineers, supporting solutioning, and ensuring a clean transition so clients sustain what you deliver.

- A technical degree and/or hyperscaler certification (Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems) or equivalent experience.
- Deep, hands-on experience delivering production solutions in live client environments at enterprise scale.
- Proven delivery across two or more of OCP, AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Expertise in Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
- Strong IaC and GitOps discipline: Terraform, Ansible, ArgoCD, Tekton.
- Experience operating or integrating AI/ML or LLM workloads (model serving, GPU infrastructure, or watsonx).

Advanced Security Knowledge: Experience with security technologies and risk management principles to provide expert advice on infrastructure security and risk mitigation.

IT Service Management: Experience in IT service management frameworks and methodologies, such as ITIL, to ensure high-quality technical support and process compliance.

Cloud Infrastructure: Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms, such as provisioning, deployment, and management of cloud-based infrastructure products.
