Description:

Responsible for assessing, planning and implementing physical therapy care and treatment of patients in effective and professional manner, in accordance with Maryland State laws and American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Code and Standards.  Collaborates with physicians, medical professionals, staff, and families, to ensure quality of care.  Provides assessment and care for patients of all ages from neonate through geriatric.  Utilizes principles of growth and development appropriate to patient age, to meet unique needs of each patient.  Additional training may be required to work with specified groups of patients, as determined by department guidelines and best practice.  Supports Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Health.

Minimum Licensure & Certification Required (if applicable):

1.  Current licensure verified by Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.

2.  Current BLS Healthcare Provider certification from American Heart Association.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

1.  Graduate of accredited school, with Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Physical Therapy, or Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT).

2.  Adheres to APTA Code and Standards.

3.  Must be able to evaluate and treat patients in any hospital unit within professional scope of practice.

4.  Able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

5.  Must be able to work weekends and holidays.

6.  Must be willing and able to become proficient on basic computer systems utilized for documentation, scheduling and charging.

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements: Capable of exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift patients up to 35 pounds.

Visual Acuity: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

Environmental Conditions: The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways

Reporting Relationship:

Reports to and is evaluated by the Section Coordinator of Physical Therapy

Reports to and is evaluated by the Director of Physical Medicine

May be supervised by Charge Therapist or Lead Therapist

Assumes accountability and responsibility for the supervision of students, volunteers, and aides within the scope of the discipline
