Position Summary

Join Bronson's outpatient rehabilitation team at BLIRC in Kalamazoo and enjoy the opportunity to provide 1:1 patient care in a collaborative, patient-focused environment. This unique role combines traditional outpatient physical therapy with an aquatic therapy component approximately two days per week, allowing you to utilize specialized treatment approaches to help patients recover from injury, surgery, and musculoskeletal, neurological, and orthopedic conditions.

As a Physical Therapist, you will evaluate, develop, and implement individualized treatment plans designed to restore function, improve mobility and strength, reduce pain, and maximize independence. You will play a vital role in helping patients achieve their goals and return to the activities that matter most.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Perform comprehensive physical therapy evaluations using standardized assessments to determine functional abilities, limitations, and rehabilitation needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on physician referrals, clinical findings, and patient goals.
  • Provide direct outpatient physical therapy services through evidence-based interventions, including land-based and aquatic therapy treatments.
  • Assess and monitor range of motion, strength, coordination, balance, mobility, endurance, and functional performance.
  • Establish measurable goals, monitor patient progress, and modify treatment plans as appropriate.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers regarding treatment plans, home exercise programs, injury prevention, and wellness strategies.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary discussions and collaborate with providers and rehabilitation team members to support optimal outcomes.
  • Design or recommend adaptive equipment, splints, and assistive devices as needed.
  • Serve as a resource within areas of clinical expertise and provide education to colleagues.
  • Contribute to program development, departmental initiatives, and continuous process improvement efforts.
  • Provide coverage across Rehabilitation Services locations as needed.

Documentation & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Complete timely, accurate, and compliant documentation within the electronic health record.
  • Maintain thorough records of evaluations, treatment plans, interventions, patient progress, and outcomes.
  • Communicate documentation barriers or workflow concerns to leadership in a timely manner.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and quality improvement initiatives.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Supervise Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs), Rehabilitation Clinical Assistants, PT and PTA students, volunteers, and athletic trainers as assigned.
  • Foster a collaborative learning environment that supports professional development and clinical excellence.

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program.
  • Current Michigan Physical Therapist license in good standing.
  • BLS certification within three months of hire.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and computer systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform work requiring prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, and patient handling activities.
  • Ability to assist with patient transfers and mobility activities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
