In order to support Central R&T Materials Domain, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a

PhD student in the field of development and processing of composite structures (d/f/m)

You are looking for a PhD thesis and want to get to know the work of a Material Scientist (d/f/m)? Then apply now! We look forward to you supporting us in the Central R&T Materials Domain department as a Doktorand (d/f/m)!

  • Location: Ottobrunn, Munich

  • Start: as soon as possible

  • Duration: 36 Month

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Material screening, development and testing (physico-chemical, mechanical, electromagnetic absorption) including aspects like high temperature performance.

  • Modelling and understanding of EM absorbers.

  • Becoming familiar with most advanced experimental, numerical and machine learning methods for analysing test data and for developing new materials.

  • Transfer of polymer composite manufacturing processes from 2D to 3D (winding, resin transfermoulding (RTM)).

  • Integration of functionality in 3D CFRP  (sub)components.

  • Write scientific papers, technical reports, and present them at conferences and meetings.

 Desired skills and qualifications

  • Master degree in a field like Materials Science, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Physics.

  • Office applications (Google Workspace).

  • Python programming and basic understanding of using
    machine learning tools (would be pluses).

  • Experience of working with polymeric composites
    (basics).

  • Coupon manufacturing, physico-chemical and mechanical testing, and
    data analysis (basics).

  • English (full professional command).

  • German (full professional command).
