The successful candidate:
PRN Schedule Information
As-needed coverage for call-offs and vacations (1-7 days).
No set schedule and no guaranteed hours.
Flexibility is required.
Availability on Wednesdays and Thursdays during September and October is preferred.
Job Summary
The Retail Pharmacist (Outpatient) is responsible for dispensing prescription medications, providing patient counseling, and ensuring safe and accurate medication use within the hospital retail pharmacy. This role collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support continuity of care for patients being discharged and those receiving outpatient services. The Retail Pharmacist maintains compliance with all regulatory requirements, manages medication inventory, and delivers exceptional customer service to patients and caregivers.
Key Responsibilities:
Accurately review, prepare, and dispense prescriptions.
Counsel patients on medication use, side effects, and adherence.
Collaborate with healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards.
Maintain medication inventory and oversee pharmacy operations.
Provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Position Qualifications
Minimum Education
Graduate of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.
Required Courses/Training
Completion of a pharmacy residency program preferred, or equivalent hospital pharmacy experience.
Required Certification/Licensure
Current Illinois State Registered Pharmacist license.
Preferred Experience
Experience in oncology pharmacy preferred.
