PBX Operator 

Full-Time, Nights

 

The PBX/Switchboard Department serves as the central communication hub for Baptist Health Lexington, supporting patients, visitors, team members, and clinical staff across the hospital. This team manages all incoming and outgoing calls, overhead paging, emergency code communications, and critical notification processes. Switchboard Operators play a vital role in ensuring timely, accurate, and courteous communication, often serving as the first point of contact for individuals reaching the hospital. The department is staffed 24/7, providing continuous support to clinical operations, security, and patient services. With a focus on professionalism, excellent customer service, and attention to detail, PBX/Switchboard contributes significantly to the smooth, safe, and efficient functioning of the organization. 

 

Direct incoming calls from the switchboard and patient information lines in a courteous and professional  

manner. Monitor alarms and emergency telephones in the switchboard and communicate necessary  

information quickly. Receive and process work orders in a timely and professional manner. Provide  

information to walk-up visitors and patients in a courteous and professional manner. 

 

Job Description: 

  • Proficiency in answering switchboard and information desk telephones with professionalism and courtesy. 

  • Ability to greet and assist visitors in a friendly and courteous manner. 

  • Skill in managing difficult or emotional customer situations and responding promptly to customer needs and requests. 

  • Competency in answering and appropriately responding to all emergency alarms and codes. 

  • Accuracy in processing work order information and providing accurate information to callers and walk-up visitors. 

 

Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • One year customer service experience
