Job description

The Panel Beater cum Sprayer is responsible for repairing damaged vehicle body panels and restoring vehicle finishes through professional preparation, painting, and refinishing. The role includes assessing collision damage, repairing or replacing panels, preparing surfaces, applying automotive paint, and ensuring repairs meet quality and manufacturer standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect damaged vehicles and assess body repair requirements.
  • Repair, reshape, and replace damaged vehicle body panels, doors, fenders, bonnets, roofs, and bumpers.
  • Straighten chassis and vehicle frames using appropriate body repair equipment where required.
  • Remove dents using panel beating tools and repair techniques.
  • Weld, grind, cut, and fit replacement panels as necessary.
  • Prepare vehicle surfaces by sanding, filling, masking, and priming prior to painting.
  • Mix automotive paints to achieve accurate color matching.
  • Apply primer, base coat, clear coat, and protective finishes using spray painting equipment.
  • Polish, buff, and finish painted surfaces to achieve a high-quality appearance.
  • Inspect completed repairs to ensure quality, color consistency, and compliance with customer and manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain spray booths, painting equipment, tools, and workshop facilities.
  • Follow safe handling procedures for paints, solvents, and hazardous materials.
  • Maintain accurate repair documentation and report any additional damage identified during repairs.
  • Comply with company health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of automotive body repair and spray painting techniques.
  • Ability to repair collision damage and restore vehicle body panels.
  • Proficiency in using body repair tools, welding equipment, spray guns, sanding equipment, and polishing tools.
  • Knowledge of automotive paint systems, color matching, primers, fillers, and finishing materials.
  • Ability to read repair estimates and manufacturer repair procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
  • Good problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness to perform manual work and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices, including the safe handling of chemicals and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
