Job description

Ward Home, Inc. is the premier provider of independent living service for displaced
teenagers in southwestern PA. Founded in 1905 as a safe haven for children who had no place to call home, Ward Home has grown into a fully incorporated not-for-profit social service agency providing independent living skills to at-risk teens and young adults. Approximately 160 teens and young adults are helped through enhanced life-skill training programs every year. Our mission is to train at-risk young adults in safe, nurturing environments in order to live independently as effective contributing members of the community. The Outreach and Events Intern will work within the Development Department of Ward Home to support the Department activities. This flexible unpaid internship will focus on outreach activities including research and identify possible speaking engagements and media opportunities to increase public knowledge of Ward Home.

A flexible Monday through Friday schedule is available, casual dress, as well as the opportunity to earn college credits and to gain valuable professional experience.Ward Home has a welcoming and comfortable workplace environment with free parking onsite.

This unpaid internship will focus on outreach activities including research and identify possible speaking engagements and media opportunities to increase public knowledge of Ward Home. The intern will assist in event planning details for four events held in March, May, June and October. Opportunities to participate in other fundraising activities include grant writing projects and donor stewardship. Other opportunities available to the intern include: generating a portfolio of writing samples from assignments for the Ward Home’s newsletter, email, social media and website communication tools, usage of DonorPro Ward Home’s database management program, developing marketing materials, and researching available enrichment programs.  

A student at the junior or senior level who is attaining a degree in business or communications.

A student who is dependable, works well with others and acts in a professional manner.
A student who is well-organized.
A student who is knowledgeable using the Microsoft Office program.  Knowledge of Publisher is a plus.
