Job description

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY:

Verify and maintain records on incoming and outgoing shipments. As an outport freight clerk, you will prepare items for shipment. You will also have positive interactions with both internal and external customers. You must be able to process large cash transactions for customers and answer any questions. Work shifts are Monday through Friday, unless otherwise directed. This position reports directly to the Manager of Regional Operations for the port.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, or shipping orders.
  • examine shipment contents and compare with recordsto verify accuracy.
  • Correspond with management to rectify problems, and resolve customers issues.
  • Contact customers when cargo is ready and available.
  • Distribute bills of lading to customers upon pick-up.
  • Accepts reservations for containers, vehicles, and RORO.
  • Code customer information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Collects cash for pre-paid and collect shipments.
  • Performs freigt invoice adjustments as needed.
  • Provides customers with basic shipping requirements, freight charges, sailing schedules and cargo availability.
  • Sends proper government paperwork to Honolulu for processing.

  • Strong knowledge of administrative and clerical proceedures.
  • Able to provide customer and personal service.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer systems, and office equipment.
  • Able to assess customer needs and meet quality standards for service.
  • Able to convey information quickly and effectively.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Able to stand, and move frequently throughout the shift.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least three years prior office experience.
  • Three years or more of proven cash handling experience.
  • Prior use of computers.
  • Keyboarding (35wpm) on computer terminals.
  • Experience with cargo tariff, freight charge extensions and calculations, processing Bill of Ladings preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Posess a Twic card, or able to aquire one upon offer of employment.
