Academic Excellence Meets High-Volume Clinical Practice

Gundersen Health System is seeking a motivated and collaborative Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon to join an established, high-performing team in La Crosse, Wisconsin. This opportunity offers a unique academic–private practice hybrid model, combining the autonomy and clinical focus of private practice with meaningful involvement in resident education and academic medicine.

You will join a collegial team of three OMS attending surgeons within a fully accredited four-resident training program (one resident per year)—allowing for impactful mentorship, teaching, and professional growth while maintaining a strong operative experience.

Scope of Practice

This position offers a comprehensive and advanced surgical scope, including:

  • Dentoalveolar surgery
  • Dental implants & advanced implant rehabilitation
  • Orthognathic surgery
  • TMJ arthroscopy and total joint replacement
  • Facial trauma
  • Pathology
  • Bone grafting and reconstruction

Most clinical time is dedicated to private practice-style patient care and operative experience, complemented by teaching full scope OMS, interdisciplinary collaboration and OR access.

The OMS service operates within a fully integrated, multidisciplinary dental specialty environment, including:

This structure supports comprehensive treatment planning and coordinated patient care, enhancing outcomes and clinical satisfaction.

Dedicated Clinical & Surgical Support

  • Experienced pre- and post-anesthesia nursing staff
  • Highly trained oral surgery assistants skilled in outpatient anesthesia and surgical support

Technology & Digital Integration

  • Cone beam CT (CBCT) imaging
  • iTero intraoral scanning
  • 3D printing with virtual surgical planning
  • X-Nav guided implant technology
  • Immersive Touch technology for trauma and surgical planning
  • Butterfly portable ultrasound for IV access

Anesthesia & Monitoring

  • Comprehensive anesthesia and sedation equipment
  • Bluetooth-enabled monitoring systems
  • End-tidal CO₂ monitoring
  • Precordial stethoscopes
  • Fully trained OMS anesthesia support team

Qualifications

  • DDS/DMD from an accredited institution
  • Completion of an accredited OMS residency
  • Board certified or board eligible (ABOMS)
  • Eligible for Wisconsin medical/dental licensure
