Job Title: Regulatory Reporting Team Lead
Reporting Line: Head, Operations MIS Department
Job Purpose:
To lead the Regulatory Reporting team in ensuring accurate, complete, and timely preparation, review, and submission of regulatory reports to regulators and internal stakeholders. The role is responsible for maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, strengthening the reporting control environment, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, accuracy, and resilience.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Regulatory Reporting
Lead the preparation, review, and approval of operational regulatory reports (e.g. Cash Balance of Payments, ROMS, and other regulatory returns) to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely submission.
Oversee data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance processes to maintain the integrity and reliability of regulatory reporting.
Monitor reporting schedules and ensure compliance with all regulatory submission deadlines.
Provide guidance and technical support to team members on reporting requirements, methodologies, and reporting systems.
B. Regulatory Compliance & Governance
Review and approve Amendment Justification Templates (AJTs) and supporting documentation for inaccurate, incomplete, or late submissions, where applicable.
Ensure compliance with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), and other relevant regulatory requirements.
Maintain robust governance standards, including adherence to maker-checker controls, operational procedures, and internal policies.
Review and enhance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure continued compliance with regulatory expectations and internal control requirements.
C. Stakeholder Management
Act as the primary contact point for regulatory reporting-related queries from regulators, auditors, compliance functions, and internal stakeholders.
Collaborate closely with Business Units, Operations, Technology, Finance, Compliance and other stakeholders to resolve reporting issues and support regulatory initiatives.
Lead and coordinate responses to regulatory reviews, audits, inspections, and compliance assessments, ensuring timely and accurate provision of information and supporting documentation.
D. Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
Identify, investigate, and escalate reporting discrepancies, control gaps, and potential regulatory breaches in a timely manner.
Drive process enhancement, automation, and digitisation initiatives to improve reporting efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and control effectiveness.
Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on reporting processes and reporting obligations.
Support the strengthening of the overall regulatory reporting framework, operational resilience, and risk management practices.
E. Leadership & People Management
Lead, coach, and develop team members to build regulatory reporting expertise and operational competency.
Allocate and manage team resources to ensure adequate coverage and continuity of reporting responsibilities.
Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, collaboration, and strong risk awareness within the team.
Establish cross-training and succession planning initiatives to enhance team resilience and operational readiness.
Job Requirements / Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Banking, Finance, Business Administration, Statistics, or a related discipline.
Minimum 5-8 years' experience in banking operations, regulatory reporting, finance or related functions, with prior supervisory experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), and other relevant regulatory reporting requirements.
Good understanding of regulatory reporting processes, operational controls, and risk management principles.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis techniques; experience with reporting systems, automation tools, or data analytics platforms is an advantage.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills.
Ability to work effectively under tight regulatory timelines while maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.
