Job description
The Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law at High Point University School of Law invites applicants to serve as an open rank Clinical Professor of Law to begin in the Fall 2026 semester, or earlier. We are seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial attorney to join our clinical faculty. The selected candidate will have the exciting opportunity, under the supervision of the Dean, to design and implement a new in-house clinic at the law school, with the specific subject-matter focus of the clinic to be proposed by the applicant.

The selected candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment that fosters critical analysis, reasoned argument, and the free exchange of ideas and equips students with the doctrinal knowledge, practical skills, and professional values needed for success in a rapidly evolving legal profession. Candidates should be well-suited to work in a collegial and student-oriented culture.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • A J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school and excellent academic credentials.

Certifications/ Licensure:

  • Admission to the North Carolina State Bar, or eligibility and willingness to sit for the North Carolina Bar Examination.

Experience and Training:

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

  • Significant practice experience (typically 5+ years preferred) in the area of proposed focus.
  • Demonstrated potential for or experience in clinical teaching and supervision of students.
  • A commitment to public service, social justice, and client-centered representation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

This position provides a unique opportunity to design and direct a new, innovative law clinic. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Clinic Development: Designing and implementing a new in-house clinic that provides high-quality legal services to clients while offering rich educational opportunities for law students.

Supervise Students: Mentoring and supervising student attorneys in direct, live-client representation, including case selection, litigation, negotiation, or policy advocacy.

Teach Seminar: Developing and teaching a seminar component that educates students by integrating substantive law with practical skills, ethics, and critical theory.

Foster Partnerships: Building and maintaining relationships with community partners, social service providers, medical professionals, and others to address systemic issues.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Performs all job responsibilities independently
  • Reports directly to Dean.
