Job Title: Office Assistant

Department:  Office of Student Financial Planning

Supervisor:  Carmen Holt-Majette

Starting Rate of Pay:  $9.00

Length of Time: Eligible for rehire on a semester basis.

Department Description

The Office of Student Financial Planning works diligently to assist students in their pursuit of postsecondary education at High Point University.  We know that financial assistance is often needed, so we guide families on different forms of grants and scholarships, loans, work programs, and payment options that may be available to them.

Job Description

Student employees serve as a first point of contact for the office and assist with general administrative duties. This is an academic year position which can also include summer.  As a student employee, you will gain experience in customer service, working in an office environment, also time and organizational management while enhancing your verbal communication skills and ability to multi-task.

Job Location/ Hours Required

The candidate will perform most/all job duties in Roberts Hall. Hours may vary depending on the job requirements.  However, a student employee can expect to be scheduled no less than 6-8 hours per week with flexibility during mid-term and final exams.  This position will not exceed 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet students, parents and visitors as they enter the office
  • Answer basic questions via the phone and in person
  • Transfer calls to counselors and other offices on campus
  • Create student files
  • File paperwork in individual student files
  • Input material into scanning system and store as defined by departmental guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

Applicants should be comfortable speaking with people in person and over the phone. They should have basic Microsoft Office Word and Excel skills. They must maintain confidentiality as a large quantity of this office’s work involves private information. Students must also be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
