Welcome to the Ocean Talent Programme, a pilot initiative by Wilhelmsen to inspire and support young academic talents from low-income families in Malaysia. Our mission is to provide educational opportunities and foster a connection to the maritime industry through comprehensive support and mentorship. By funding entire degrees and nurturing student relationships through local ambassador programmes at our offices, we aim to build a brighter future for both the students and the maritime industry. This inaugural intake is an exclusive collaboration with students from Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT).

Eligibility 

To apply for the Ocean Talent Programme, you must meet the following criteria: 

Nationality: Malaysian citizens aged 25 years old and below. 

Academic qualification: Existing TAR UMT Foundation/Diploma/ bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.0000 or equivalent. New degree student with STPM/ A-Level/ UEC with minimum 1A’s. 

Financial background:  Financially needy with a low monthly household income. Applicant must not presently receive any sponsorship from other organisations or institutions.

Language proficiency: Good command of English, both verbal and written. 

Interest: Aspire to pursue a career in the maritime industry. 

Value of sponsorship 

  • University fees as per student bill for the duration of the programme (excluding fees for dual award/professional programmes, special projects, field trips, external accreditation, learning materials, study abroad, or re-sit/repeat of subjects). 

  • Monthly living allowance of RM1,200 for the duration of the programme.

Documents related to the applicant:-

  • Student Identify Card/MyKad and a birth certificate 

  • Passport-sized photograph 

  • Latest academic results and certificates 

  • A copy of TAR UMT Admission Offer Letter

Documents related to the applicant’s parents/guardians:-

  • Parents’/guardians’ Identity Card/ MyKad 

  • Parents’/guardians’ proof of  income* 

Documents related to the applicant’s siblings:-

  • Birth certificates of siblings 

  • Siblings’ proof of income (if working)* 

PowerPoint presentation (max. 2 pages) on the following:-

  • Introducing yourself and aspirations 

  • Why do you deserve to be selected 

  • How will this programme assist you in achieving your ambition 

*Salary slips (past 2 months)/Income Tax Form B or BE with EA forms (past 2 years)/EPF statement (past 2 years) / any other documentary proof

Step 1

Step 2 

Digital introduction
Submit a two-page PowerPoint presentation to help us understand who you are, your aspirations, and why you deserve to be selected

Step 3 

Interview session
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to meet with our evaluation committee onsite 

Step 4 

Award ceremony
Successful applicants will be notified and invited to celebrate their achievements at our award ceremony
