Primary Purpose Position requires an individual that is well experienced in engineering design for their specific discipline as well as other disciplines associated with a project. Person possesses a unique set of skills that have been developed through years of experience in the engineering design business. Person's responsibilities go beyond preparation of deliverables. Their role is to support design activities, supervise and finalize engineering configurations, requirements and deliverables. Reviews general project objectives, definition of scope and development of concepts. Individual develops and monitors project control systems including schedules, man-day budgets, lists, bill of materials, etc. Person supervises an assigned staff of engineering technicians and support personnel. Determine staffing needs and work assignments perform personnel appraisals, work reviews and assists the staff with goal setting. Person and their staff make decisions that directly affect the success of the project. Working knowledge of the other engineering disciplines for the purpose of coordinating with other departments, engineering managers, field personnel and clients. Will apply this knowledge in reviewing designs and resolving areas of concern.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities This Network Architect with be responsible for network architecture design and planning for Smart Grid utility clients. This includes creating design sketches, implementation and preliminary support of IP Private Networks.

Key duties include:

• Communicating directly with clients (sometimes non-technical clients) to identify current and future communication needs

• Creating master communication plans to meet those client needs and receive buy-in from the client

• Collaborate with and/or delegate responsibilities to a team of engineers.

• Assesses industry standards for models, and where appropriate, incorporates them into our architecture standards.

• Participates as technical lead on major projects and application roll-outs

• Responsible for completing and adhering to all Team processes and procedures and all documentation/tools.

•Strong on documentation and processes.

•Capable of optimizing day-to-day operational stability with the continual need to improve the service and deploy new services, processes and technologies.

• Create or expand utility communication systems

• Understands, advocates, and supports IT strategies.

• Mentors others on the Telecommunication team.

Minimum Qualifications •15 years experience in IT industry.

• In depth knowledge of MPLS networks including experience in designing and/or support

• IP networking background focused on service provider or carrier routing and switching

• Excellent interpersonal, oral/presentation and written communication skills in both technical and non-technical language.

• Up-to-date, broad knowledge in all current communications and computing technologies and trends.

Preferred Job Qualifications • Experience in Engineering support or utility IT environment

• DWDM conceptual understanding

• BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, or related technical field

• Cisco CCIE/CCDA certifications are desired, other certifications are a plus.
