Description

Reality Labs is seeking a Nanofabrication Research Engineer to advance the development of next-generation optical components for augmented and virtual reality devices. In this role, you will design, fabricate, and characterize nanoscale optical structures — including diffractive optical elements, waveguides, and metasurfaces, MEMS devices, photonic integrated circuits, spatial light modulators — that are central to enabling lightweight, high-performance AR/VR wearables. You will work at the intersection of photonics, materials science, and semiconductor fabrication to translate research concepts into manufacturable optical solutions that define the future of spatial computing.

Responsibilities

Design, execution and validation of novel process integration approaches for fabrication of advanced photonic devices Design verification for as fabricated advanced photonic devices, including identifying design-to-ground truth gaps and closing such gaps Contribute to the improvement of process modules and steps in order to deliver next-gen process design kit (PDK) as desired by device design, including identifying and leading external engagements where appropriate Collaborate with diverse teams and scientists with specialties in Computation, Optics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Process Development, and other process integrators to identify both gaps and opportunities for innovative fabrication methodologies or tools to overcome existing limitations

Qualifications

PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Sciences or relevant equivalent experience 1+ years of experience in process integration roles in leading-edge semiconductor fabrication or novel optical device fabrication 3+ years of experience in process module development for leading-edge semiconductor fabrication or novel optical device fabrication 1+ years of experience in fabrication and functional testing of novel photonic devices such as metastructures, photonic integrated circuits, diffractive, refractive structures, etc 3+ years experience in process integration roles in optical waveguide or metalens/metagrating, photonic integrated circuit or MEMS fabrications 3+ years of experience in design validation and verification of novel photonic devices such as metastructures, photonic integrated circuits, diffractive, refractive structures, etc 3+ years of experience in design, fabrication, and testing of novel optical structures such as metastructures, holographic elements, subwavelength diffractive structures, beam steering elements, etc 3+ years of experience in process module development (such as Etch, Dep, or Litho) for optical waveguide or metalens/metagrating, photonic integrated circuit or MEMS fabrication
