Ford Motor Company is growing our manufacturing and technical expertise in High Pressure Die Casting, Greensand molding, and Semi-permanent molding castings for powertrain, structural, and EV applications. Our supplier business partners are a very important part of this growth. Core Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) is seeking a highly motivated, degreed engineer with prior manufacturing experience and a strong quality background for a Casting Technical Specialist position. The Ford STA team is committed to delivering a world class automotive supply base that produces best in class quality in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible. This team is composed of Technical Experts, Quality Professionals, and Manufacturing Engineers who assist the suppliers as they grow with Ford Motor Company.

The Casting Technical Specialist for Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) will lead Casting prevention and prevent recurrence within our supply base. The Casting Technical Specialist will work with PD, Supply Chain and STA Engineers to ensure proper Casting specification and controls are in place and executed robustly. Also, the Casting Technical Specialist will lead the training and development of new and existing Casting Subject Matter Experts.
What you'll do...
- Responsible for New Technology manufacturing risk and feasibility assessments for powertrain, complex and structural castings (High Pressure Die Casting, Greensand molding, Semi-permanent molding & other)
- Technical expertise lead during Industrialization planning for powertrain, structural and complex castings
- Provide support to Site STA engagement to address systemic quality, capacity, and manufacturing issues
- Drive Prevent Recurrence by creating and maintaining Ford manufacturing casting process standards capturing lessons learned, best practices and technical innovations
- Collaborate with peers in Product Development, Supply Chain, and STA to ensure proper casting specification and controls are considered at every step of the design, sourcing, launch and production processes
- Evaluate casting manufacturing plans to deliver a process that guarantees parts that meet quality targets
- Drive robust sourcing risk assessments for complex castings
- Lead governance of casting Special Process Assessment & Health Charts development and maintenance updates
- Review casting quality & capacity indicators (e.g. quality rejects, 8Ds, warranty & delivery) and drive technical support to address issues
- Support people development process for STA engineers and potential casting SME’s by providing training in area of casting control and BIC manufacturing practices
- Develop technical training to increase competency in supply base
- Collaborate with industry experts in development of Global industry casting standards and assessments
- Maintain involvement in relevant professional organizations and benchmark industry standards and practices related to castings
- Travel up to 80% within North America
You'll have...
- 5 or more years minimum experience in casting, manufacturing, and related technologies
- Bachelor of Science/Engineering
- Casting Technical Publication
- Experience in the following areas is required: High Pressure Die Casting, Greensand Mold Casting, and Semi-permanent Molding Casting
- Advanced knowledge of casting manufacturing process(es)
- Technical casting knowledge
- Advanced problem-solving skills (Black Belt Certification preferred)
- Demonstrated initiative and capability to provide technical leadership to peers and management to deliver product programs
- Ability to speak and write in the English language fluently
- Strong communication skills required to mentor & develop engineers and present technical findings to upper management and at the working level
- Aluminum and Iron Melting Fundamentals
- Proficient at destructive and non-destructive testing
- Methodical aluminum and iron casting defect analysis
- Metallurgical
- Casting simulation expertise
Even better, you may have...
- MBA/MS - Chemical/Electrical/Mechanical or Metallurgy/Materials Science
- 5 or more years of casting manufacturing or process engineer experience
- Knowledge of vehicle development and launch
- English (+Spanish plus) language fluently to effectively communicate with global teams
- Demonstrated ability to perform design for manufacturing feasibility assessments
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally
