Job description
Model-Based Systems Engineer

The Opportunity:

Develop, modify, and run high-fidelity simulations of space-related Command and Control (C2) programs to inform modeling, wargaming, operational concepts and force design recommendations for the United States Space Force (USSF). Identify elements of an entire C2 architecture and apply analytical methods and tools using Python, MATLAB, government software such as Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, Modeling (AFSIM), or other internal modeling and simulation platforms. Develop new tools, scripts, and simulator features to improve operational scenario generation, data analysis, and simulation capability. Analyze USSF designs, requirements, research system technical details, and trace existing models to understand strengths and limitations of software tools. Leverage expertise in space operations and joint operations to merge models into wargame simulations. Collaborate with subject matter experts specializing in Space Domain Awareness, Satellite Communications, and Orbital Warfare to develop comprehensive operational scenarios and detailed vignettes that systematically break down C2 architecture operations. Perform quantitative analysis of simulation outputs, Measures of Performance (MOPs), Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs), timelines, attrition, and mission outcomes.

You Have:

  • 6+ years of experience using advanced analytical tools such as Python, MATLAB, or AFSIM
  • 3+ years of experience in Orbital Warfare, Space Domain Awareness, Missile Warning, or Satellite Communications operations
  • Experience developing MOEs, MOPs, and analytic frameworks for simulation activities
  • Experience building adaptable software prototypes to construct operational scenarios and vignettes
  • Knowledge of operational doctrine, and tactics, techniques, and procedures to inform scenario development
  • Active TS/SCI clearance; willingness to take a polygraph exam
  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Operational Research, or Computer Science

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with USSF and DoW Force Design process, or Unified Combatant Command requirements
  • Experience supporting USSF and other DoW space agency special access program activities
  • Master's degree preferred; Doctorate degree a plus

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
