Job Summary

St. Alban Roe School is seeking a dynamic, vibrant, caring and qualified middle school teacher. The Middle School Language Arts Teacher is responsible for developing students’ skills in reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking for grades 6–8. As a member of a Catholic school community, the teacher integrates faith, values, and Catholic teachings into instruction while fostering a supportive and respectful classroom environment. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Language Arts instruction aligned with state standards and diocesan guidelines
  • Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, grammar, vocabulary, and writing (narrative, informational, and argumentative)
  • Select and teach age-appropriate literature, including novels, short stories, poetry, and nonfiction
  • Encourage critical thinking through discussion, writing assignments, and projects
  • Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction based on data
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
  • Integrate Catholic values and teachings into lessons where appropriate
  • Maintain a positive, structured classroom environment rooted in respect and responsibility
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in faculty meetings and school initiatives
  • Support and participate in the faith life of the school (e.g., Mass, prayer services, retreats)

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field
  • Valid teaching certification (middle school or secondary ELA preferred; requirements vary by diocese)
  • Experience teaching or working with middle school students
  • Strong knowledge of literacy instruction and writing development
