Job description
Akicita Federal is hiring Medical Supply Technicians to deliver critical sterile processing services for the Indian Health Service's Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, NM. In this role, you will protect patient safety and support infection prevention by ensuring surgical instruments and medical supplies are properly decontaminated, sterilized, and ready for use across inpatient and outpatient clinical services serving American Indian and Alaska Native communities. This is meaningful, hands-on work at the heart of a high-volume federal healthcare facility.

- Perform full-cycle Sterile Processing Department (SPD) operations including decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical supplies
- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment in compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), CMS, and AAAHC standards
- Inspect, assemble, and package instrument trays and procedure sets according to established facility protocols
- Maintain accurate documentation and sterilization records in support of regulatory compliance and quality assurance
- Apply proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow all safety and infection control protocols in the decontamination and sterile processing areas
- Coordinate supply inventory and distribution to support uninterrupted clinical operations across the Northern Navajo Medical Center service units
- Demonstrate cultural awareness and respectful communication when interacting with IHS staff, patients, and visitors in a Native American healthcare environment
What sets candidates apart:
- Prior experience working within an Indian Health Service, tribal, or other federal healthcare facility
- Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and the handling of protected health information (PHI) in a clinical environment
- Experience in a high-volume SPD supporting both inpatient surgical services and outpatient clinical departments
- Cultural awareness of or experience working with American Indian and Alaska Native communities
- Advanced sterile processing certification (e.g., CSPDT) or completion of formal SPD training programs beyond entry-level requirements
