Its robots are engineered to perform a variety of tasks in the home and commercial markets. Figure is headquartered in San Jose, CA.

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering intern for Fall 2026 to design, test, and implement key hardware components for our humanoid robot. This internship is designed for students in their final year of an undergraduate or master’s program, as well as recent graduates who are on track to complete their degree by the end of 2026, or the following year.

Responsibilities:

  • Design parts in 3D CAD that satisfy load conditions, industrial design form factors, and durability requirements
  • Build and test prototypes to validate mechanical concepts and performance
  • Generate accurate 2D drawings using GD&T per ASME Y14.5 to ensure tight tolerances and proper fits
  • Design and build test stands; support mechanical engineering and systems integration teams with hands-on testing
  • Inspect first articles, track part quality, and continuously support parts on robot development platforms
  • Support electromechanical integration, including components such as sensors and motors

Requirements:

  • Must submit a portfolio or website of relevant projects and your role
  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field, having completed at least two years by the start of the internship
  • Experience using 3D CAD software to design parts with complex geometry
  • Experience designing, building, and testing mechanical prototypes
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with hardware projects
  • Ability to write and maintain clean documentation throughout the design process
  • Passion for robotics and hardware development

Bonus Qualifications:

  • CATIA V6 experience
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and first article inspection
  • Experience with sensors, motors, or electromechanical systems
