We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction.</undefined> <undefined class="userway-s7-active" style="font-family: Arial, serif !important">OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE</undefined> <undefined class="userway-s7-active" style="font-family: Arial, serif !important">The Mechanic – 3 is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and overhauling heavy equipment and complex vehicle systems (e.g. engines, hydraulics, transmissions). The position involves using both computerized and manual diagnostic tools and applying extensive mechanical and electronic systems knowledge. The role also includes performing field repairs or equipment operation and conducting light equipment maintenance (e.g. small engine tools).  Additional tasks include test-driving vehicles and handling sandbags when necessary.     </undefined>Three years of experience or training as a mechanic.<div>The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found <a href="https://apps01.civilservice.louisiana.gov/onestopjobinfo/DisplayJobSpec.aspx?JobCode=103370" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>Job Duties:<ul class="userway-s7-active"><li>Performs one or more of the following types of maintenance or repairs as a primary, regular, and reoccurring function of the job. Disassembles, diagnoses, overhauls, rebuilds, and/or repairs heavy equipment or complex systems such as engines, transmissions, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, gear reduction systems, electrical systems, suspension systems, brake systems, exhaust emission control systems, etc. </li><li>Performs diagnostic tests to locate malfunctions of the various systems by using extensive knowledge of vehicle systems developed through years of experience. Incorporates visual and audible inspection with the use of a wide range of computerized test equipment, such as electronic scanners, engine analyzers, dynamometers, exhaust analyzers, oscilloscopes, and various testers and meters, as well as non-computerized test equipment. Applies knowledge of how complex electronic systems affect the operation of mechanical systems in order to determine the nature and extent of repair necessary. Selects the best work procedures to accomplish repair.</li><li>Assists Mechanic Supervisor A and Mechanic 4 in providing instruction, guidance and assistance to Mechanic 2. Assigns portions of work to lower level mechanics that are assisting in the accomplishment of major repairs. Assists in training lower level mechanics in the field on diesel and hydraulic engine repair.</li><li>May also be responsible for repair and maintenance of equipment powered by small internal combustion engines such as: lawnmowers, string trimmers, outboard motors, etc. Tasks may include grinding valves, setting tappets and push rods, installing new piston rings, and cleaning parts. </li><li>Filling of new sandbags as required, and handling of sandbags as required. Test-driving heavy duty vehicles for troubleshooting.</li></ul>Position-Specific Details:Appointment Type: This appointment type can be filled as Probational, Promotional, Lateral Transfer, Detail to Special Duty or Job Appointment.
