Job Summary

The Manufacturing Utility Operator will monitor, organize and schedule the daily activities of associates and monitor product resources ensuring that customer and AFL specifications are met. In this role, the Utility Operator will be qualified to operate all production lines in their assigned area. Their objective is to support the line operators on their team to maximize production while also ensuring safety and quality requirements are followed. In this role, they are expected to assist with changeovers, support new operators in building their proficiency, monitoring workflow, solve process problems, and complete tasks as assigned by their shift supervisor.


Responsibilities

  • Assess daily production schedules and plan to ensure uninterrupted flow as well as fulfillment of customer delivery requirements.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day activities of team members.
  • Ensure WIP, tooling, and other needed items are staged for the next run at each line.
  • Provide the necessary support, training, and troubleshooting to ensure an effective team.
  • Cover for unplanned operator absences.
  • Develop training documents and facilitate training; assist in trouble shooting issues.
  • Troubleshoot and intervene as needed to address and resolve disruptions as quickly as possible in order to maintain product flow.
  • Establish appropriate channels of feedback to inform upstream departments of defects.
  • Review/update completed nonconforming reports for accuracy and publish KPI metrics as assigned daily.
  • Lead and/or participate in improvements activities
  • Responsible for 5s activities for assigned area.
  • Monitor performance and provide feedback to Manager.
  • Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Understanding of manufacturing safety standards
  • Previous manufacturing / quality related experience in the cable industry preferred.
  • Oracle, QTS, and ETQ system knowledge preferred.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Outlook, Access, Word and Excel.
  • Basic understanding of Environment Health and Safety (EHS) management systems to include general safety rules, personal protective equipment, hazard recognition, behavioral based safety, incident reporting requirements, and environmental regulations
  • Practical Understanding of EHS and quality systems

Working Conditions

  • Factory manufacturing environment assigned to either a night or dayshift working a 3-2-2 shift schedule. The work includes frequent lifting, walking, and standing.
