Job Duties: Determine destination and means of dispatching mail, materials, or other items, determine postage and shipping costs, attach appropriate postage, and prepare shipping payments. Apply postal/commercial carrier regulations and employing agency/State policies to process/dispatch items, operates varied mail, materials, and/or merchandise equipment. Sort and distribute incoming and inter-agency mail for customers, as needed. Drive an 18' straight truck and cargo van to pick up and deliver mail on the mail routes, assist with shipping and receiving on the dock. This position will also sort and distribute incoming and inter-agency mail for customers, as needed. Perform customer service via telephone and customer counter contact. Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Experience in shipping and receiving, handling inventory, warehouse work, or processing mail OR Coursework or training in office support, shipping and receiving, warehouse, inventory, or mail processing practices and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate would have experience as a professional driver of some type, shipping /receiving/warehouse experience, and at least a year of experience processing and handling mail, both USPS and UPS.

Other: Driving is required. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license. Regular and Reliable attendance is required.

Work Hours: Part-time, Monday-Friday 12:30pm-4:30pm, 20 hours per week


 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: In order to do this job the applicant would need to be familiar with Postal and UPS regulations/ mail classes and able to use Mail Processing equipment. A valid driver’s license is required as well as a good driving record and the ability to drive Courier vans as well as an 18’ cargo truck. Some computer skills are necessary in order to operate hand-held scanners and mail processing equipment. Operational knowledge of shipping/ receiving equipment such as pallet jacks, electric and riding pallet jacks, two-wheeled and four wheeled carts, etc. is also necessary. The ability to repeatedly lift heavy boxes, stand at a mail processing machine for long periods of time, and to push loaded carts is also fundamental to this job.
