Job description

Company Overview

At Motorola Solutions, we believe that everything starts with our people. We’re a global close-knit community, united by the relentless pursuit to help keep people safer everywhere. We build and connect technologies to help protect people, property and places. Our solutions foster the collaboration that’s critical for safer communities, safer schools, safer hospitals, safer businesses, and ultimately, safer nations. Connect with a career that matters, and help us build a safer future.

Department Overview

At Motorola Solutions, our technologies support public safety agencies and enterprises worldwide. When a crisis hits, our ASTRO® 25 communication network is the mission-critical lifeline that first responders rely on. We are looking for an engineer to help us build and automate the Linux-based computing platforms that keep those systems running.

Job Description

We are seeking engineers to join our ASTRO Virtual Platform Team. To be clear: this is not a day-to-day IT support or traditional sysadmin role. Instead of manual configuration or repetitive patching, your focus will be on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation. You will help design, implement, and automate the Linux based virtualized platform that powers MSI’s most critical technology products at scale.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Automating the Lifecycle: Developing and maintaining software solutions for the automated installation, upgrade and configuration of Linux systems.

  • Building the Foundation: Implementing features and low-level designs for virtualized (KVM) environments, ensuring high performance and reliability.

  • Driving Quality: Designing and executing automated functional and performance tests to ensure our platforms are bulletproof.

  • Collaborating Globally: Working within an Agile, international team to make infrastructure deployment effortless, secure and robust.

Basic Requirements

  • Linux Expertise: 2+ years of hands-on experience with Linux operating systems (ideally RedHat) and virtualization technologies.

  • An Automation Mindset: Strong scripting skills with Bash, Python, or Ansible. If you understand core automation/programming concepts, we will help you master our specific tech stack!

  • Core Systems Knowledge: A solid grasp of Linux pillars, including systemd services, logging configuration, and access controls.

  • The Geek Factor: A strong analytical mindset, deep technical curiosity, and the ability to communicate effectively in English.

Bonus Points If You Bring:

  • Networking/Security Foundation: An understanding of TCP/IP networking and TLS/PKI concepts.

  • Modern Workflows Experience: Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile processes. (Don't worry if you aren't an expert yet—these are core to our workflow, and you'll get plenty of hands-on experience learning them here).

  • Cross-Platform Flexibility: Some familiarity with PowerShell (or a willingness to learn it!). Since our computing platform integrates both Linux and Windows ecosystems, being able to speak a little "Windows" is an advantage.

  • Professional Certifications: RHCSA, RHCE, or CCNA.

In return for your expertise, we’ll support you in this new challenge with coaching & development every step of the way.

Also, to reward your hard work you’ll get:

  • Competitive salary package

  • Private medical & dental coverage

  • Employee Pension Plan

  • Life insurance

  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan

  • Flexible working hours

  • Strong collaborative culture

  • Comfortable work conditions (high-class offices, parking space)

  • Volleyball field and grill place next to the office

  • Access to wellness facilities and integration events as well as training and broad

  • Development opportunities
