Job Description
Responsibilities
Architecture, Modernization, and Cloud Strategy
- Lead the architecture, design, and modernization of enterprise applications that support high-volume transaction processing, operational workflows, customer servicing capabilities, and critical business operations.
- Drive cloud adoption and technology transformation using Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, microservices, and modern engineering practices.
- Define long-term architecture direction, engineering roadmaps, modernization strategies, and cloud adoption plans that support enterprise technology transformation.
- Lead migration of legacy applications to scalable, resilient, secure, and cloud-ready platforms while reducing technical debt and improving maintainability.
Engineering Delivery and Technical Execution
- Design, build, and maintain scalable APIs, microservices, and event-driven applications using Java, Spring Boot, and distributed system architectures.
- Perform hands-on software development, solution design, code reviews, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and production support for business-critical applications.
- Lead integration efforts across enterprise systems and vendor platforms while promoting reusable services, API-first design principles, and scalable technology solutions.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and establish modernization strategies that improve developer productivity, scalability, security, and operational effectiveness.
Standards, Reliability, and Operational Excellence
- Provide technical leadership on application architecture, engineering standards, cloud strategy, modernization roadmaps, and software development best practices.
- Define and enforce engineering standards, DevSecOps practices, CI/CD frameworks, and Software Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles across development teams.
- Drive adoption of observability, monitoring, automation, resiliency, and performance engineering capabilities to improve platform stability, operational efficiency, and service availability.
Collaboration and Technical Leadership
- Partner closely with business, product, architecture, infrastructure, security, and engineering teams to deliver innovative technology solutions that improve customer and employee experiences.
- Provide technical mentorship, guidance, and enablement to software engineers and technical leads while fostering a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
- Six to eight years of relevant experience
Experience Should Include
- 10+ years of Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, Spring Batch, REST APIs, GraphQL, microservices, and distributed architectures.
- VERY strong money movement experience, preferably for branches
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Rancher, cloud-native platforms (ideally AWS, Azure is a good 2nd place), and large-scale application modernization.
- Strong knowledge of event-driven architecture, asynchronous processing, and messaging technologies such as Kafka and AMQ.
- Experience with CI/CD, DevSecOps, automation, testing, and engineering tools including Jenkins, Maven, GitHub, and SonarQube.
- Experience with enterprise data platforms including Oracle, SQL Server, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, and Redis.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, scalability, resiliency, observability, security, and performance optimization.
- Proven ability to lead technical initiatives while remaining hands-on in design, development, delivery, and production support for mission-critical platforms.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, execution, and stakeholder partnership skills in complex enterprise environments.
- Experience mentoring engineers and driving engineering best practices, technical standards, and development excellence.
- Strong banking, financial services, payments, transaction processing, or other highly regulated environments.
- Front-end in React or NodeJS

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $126,820.00 - $149,200.00U.S. Bank will consider qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records for employment.
