Job Description Summary

We are looking for a talented and motivated Controls & Automation Engineer to join our New Product Introduction (NPI) organisation and play a pivotal role in the development of our next-generation automation and Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems.
This is a product development role - focused on innovating, designing, and bringing to market the next generation of automation platforms. You will work across both HMI and Controls disciplines, contributing to the architecture, development, testing and migration of cutting-edge automation solutions built on distributed control principles.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate control system software for next-generation automation and DP platforms within the NPI framework
  • Develop control logic, algorithms, and system architectures to meet functional, safety, and performance requirements
  • Support migration of existing control system codebases to the GE priority platforms, ensuring continuity, performance, and compliance
  • Design and develop intuitive, high-performance Human Machine Interface (HMI) solutions aligned with product requirements and user experience goals
  • Ensure HMI designs meet relevant industry standards, usability best practices, and product roadmap objectives
  • Develop and maintain software components in C embedded control systems
  • Work at both the application and system level, understanding the interaction between hardware, firmware, and software layers
  • Analyse existing codebases, identify technical risks, and develop migration strategies to minimise disruption and preserve product integrity
  • Document migration processes, test results, and system changes in line with NPI engineering standards and product lifecycle requirements
  • Engage in design reviews, architecture workshops, and technical gate reviews
  • Collaborate with cross-functional NPI teams including systems architects, software engineers, and product managers to deliver against product roadmaps
  • Identify and drive continuous improvements to tools, processes, and engineering practices within the NPI organisation

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in automation and control systems engineering, ideally within a product development or NPI environment
  • Proficiency in C programming, with hands-on experience developing software for real-time or embedded control systems
  • Experience designing or working with distributed control system architectures
  • Hands-on experience with HMI development tools and platforms
  • Strong understanding of control system architectures and real-time systems
  • Familiarity with IEC 61131-3 or equivalent programming standards
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills
  • Working knowledge of IEC 62443 standards and their application within industrial automation and control system (IACS) product development
