Under the general direction of the Operations Manager or their designate, the Lab Technician is responsible for the laboratory aspects of day-to-day operations at a water treatment and used oil processing facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and clean glassware required for sample analysis.
- Perform daily water treatment analysis and reports (COD, BOD, Chloride, TKN, PH, Phosphate, Suspended Solids, Sulfate etc.)
- Perform analysis on oil process (BS&W, metals, etc).
- Perform routine calibration, sample preparation, and analyses using AA, GC, and other instrumentation.
- Troubleshoot issues with laboratory instrumentation.
- Report analytical results and coordinate effectively with operations personnel.
- Maintain accurate records for analysis, maintenance, and production.
- Complete documentation for provincial and federal regulations governing incoming waste.
- Monitor laboratory supplies and coordinate re-supply requests with purchasing personnel.
- Troubleshoot problems and assist with special research, projects or additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Key Competencies
- Education: Environmental or Chemical Engineering Technician/Technologist diploma, Chemistry degree, or related field.
- Experience: Previous laboratory experience is considered an asset.
- Technical Skills: Competent computer skills.
- Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Work Style: Motivated, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and able to work in a team with minimal supervision.
