Abode Money
Apply to this jobAbout Abode Money
Abode Money is the first-ever AI financial home manager, using AI to save homeowners on property taxes, insurance, mortgage and more. Homeowners spend $2T+ per year on their home. Not only is it difficult to buy a home today, but it’s become just as challenging to continue owning your home. We’re going to be the first to create a relationship with 80M+ homeowners in the US by saving them money year after year.
We’ve raised $23M from Permanent Capital, Drive Capital, Sequoia, Core VC and The 81 Collection.
The Role
We're looking for a General Manager to own Insurance at Abode end to end: production, profitability, licensing, carrier relationships, service, and compliance. The GM will inherit an install base of 50k+ households, a working audit, and a licensing process in flight across ten states, and will build everything after that: the carrier appointments, the licensed team, the aggregator relationship, and the agency book that follows.
What You’ll Do
Own the Insurance P&L: Revenue, unit economics, and the path from today's run rate to a real book, with monthly production plans by state and channel.
Build and Lead the Team: Recruit, license, onboard, coach, and manage the licensed producers and service staff, along with the ramp plan, incentive design, and a weekly operating cadence.
Own Carrier and Partner Relationships: Negotiate affiliate terms in writing, select the aggregator, drive appointments to close, and build a routing plan for carriers who decline to transfer Agent of Record.
Clear the Licensing Path: Ten states with JLH Associates and the DRLP, plus producer licenses, appointments, continuing education, and E&O.
Stand Up Operations: Select the agency management system and comparative rater, design the servicing model, set response-time standards, and own retention and the renewal book.
Own Compliance: Set the posture on what Abode can say before appointments land, and own documentation standards and audit readiness.
Measure Everything: Define and report the numbers that matter: production, contact rate, lead-to-bound, retention, ARPU, and servicing cost per policy.
Who You Are
You are the operator people trust with the hard problems, and you've built something from nothing before.
You've run an insurance distribution operation.
You know how long licensing and appointments actually take, and you plan against reality.
You are genuinely excited about AI - you actively use AI tools and dig into new workflows.
Basic Qualifications
Austin strongly preferred. We're in person 4 days a week.
7+ years in P&C insurance distribution, including time running an agency, a branch, a carrier direct-to-consumer channel, or an insurtech agency operation.
Active P&C producer license, with experience holding or supporting agency licensure across multiple states.
Direct experience with carrier appointments, aggregator or cluster relationships, and commission structures.
A track record managing licensed producers: hiring, ramping, and performance management.
Hands-on with an agency management system and comparative raters.
Fluent in the operating metrics: production, contact rate, close rate, retention, and servicing cost per policy.
A genuine enthusiasm for using and mastering modern AI tools and workflows.
Our Core Values
The biggest thing we pride ourselves on is autonomy. You can’t move fast through committee decision-making, so we hire people who want to own workstreams outright.
Take ownership. This is yours. We build everything through single-threaded autonomy. One person owns the outcome, makes the calls, and sees it through. We believe in “asking for forgiveness, not permission” so you can make unencumbered decisions.
Move fast. Decide. Ship. Learn. Repeat. Speed is our edge. Perfection is the enemy of momentum. We will forever move faster than our competition.
Be resourceful. Find ways to do more with less. Constraints don’t slow us down. They make us inventive. There’s always a way through, and the people who own their work find it. “That’s not my job” isn’t a sentence anyone here finishes.
Think big and challenge convention. Dare to do things differently. You don’t change the world with incrementally better solutions. The systems we’re fixing are broken because everyone accepted them. We question the default, build the better answer, and refuse to blend in.
Measure everything. Data is the tiebreaker. We turn instincts into evidence, hunches into experiments, and opinions into numbers. If we can measure it, we can beat it.
Summary
Lead insurance operations, build team, manage carrier relationships, ensure compliance, and drive profitability.
