Job Description:

The Instrument Specialist – Sterile Processing Department (SPD) serves as the department’s subject matter expert and owner of instrumentation standards, data integrity, asset lifecycle management, and quality governance. This role provides independent judgment, technical oversight, and strategic management of instrumentation systems, inventory standards, and tray configuration processes. The Instrument Specialist maintains instrumentation accuracy, compliance, and optimization across Surgical Services and Sterile Processing operations through auditing, validation, troubleshooting, and systems governance. The role collaborates with leadership, Clinical Coordinators, vendors, Application Support teams, and Surgical Services stakeholders to ensure instrumentation standards support procedural efficiency, regulatory compliance, and long-term operational strategy. The Instrument Specialist is not part of routine SPD production staffing and is not utilized for daily throughput, staffing shortages, or bargaining-unit production functions. Hands-on instrumentation interaction is limited to validation, quality review, troubleshooting, education, and audit-related activities.

Certifications/Licensures:

  • CRCST Certified Registered Central Service Technician – HSPA/IAHCSMM - Required or

  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician – CBSPD - Required

  • CIS Certified Instrument Specialist – HSPA/IAHCSMM - Required

Experience:

  • Five(5) years of Sterile Processing Experience - Required


Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of surgical instrumentation, tray configuration, implants, and sterile processing workflows.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment regarding instrumentation governance, asset management, and quality oversight.

  • Proficient in instrumentation tracking systems including instrument tracking system, carousel storage, and related inventory management systems.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complete assignments within strict timelines.

  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Ability to interpret Instructions for Use (IFUs), regulatory standards, and instrumentation specifications.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

Work Shift:

10.0 - 05:00 - 15:30 No Waive (United States of America)

Pay Range:

$40.46 - $51.72

Hourly

Offer amounts are based on demonstrated/relevant experience and/or licensure.
Pay will be adjusted to the local market if hired outside of the Bay Area.

Note: Positions at JMH which are exempt (not eligible for overtime) under the level of Manager are listed as hourly for compensation purposes on this posting. The work shift will contain the word ‘exempt’ on it.
