Job Description:

Provide swimming instruction to the community in a safe and controlled environment.

Essential Job Functions

Develops and prepares lesson plans tailored to the skill levels and needs of participants.

Sets up and organizes equipment necessary for the facilitation of lessons.

Delivers effective swimming instruction to students of various ages and skill levels.

Monitors and maintains the safety of all participants throughout lessons.

Conducts evaluations and provide feedback to students and parents regarding progress.

Other Job Duties (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor to limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.).

Performs additional tasks as assigned, which may include assisting with special events, maintaining records, and participating in in-service training.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)

Knowledge of –

  • Effective swimming instruction techniques and methodologies.
  • Basic water safety and emergency procedures.

Ability to--

  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and staff.
  • Demonstrate and perform all American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim skills.
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet the varying needs of students.

Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)

Licenses or Certificates:

Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate or American Red Cross Basic Swim Instructor Certificate.

Special Requirements:

Must be 18 years of age or have work permit.

Subject to background investigation.

Physical Demands:

Work requires medium to heavy physical effort.

Compensation Steps:

Pay rate: $21.14per hour
