Job description

Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive HR Intern with a strong interest in Indian Labour Law and Compliance Implementation. In this role, you will help bridge the gap between statutory requirements and daily HR operations. You will support the HR department in auditing existing practices, drafting compliant policies, and ensuring our organization adheres to the latest Central and State-specific labor regulations in India.

This is an ideal opportunity for a student or recent graduate pursuing an MBA in HR, a Master’s in Labour Studies (MLS), or a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) to gain hands-on experience in a corporate compliance environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Statutory Research & Monitoring

Conduct research on the four new Labour Codes (Wage, Social Security, Industrial Relations, and Occupational Safety) and their phased implementation.

Track updates regarding state-specific Shops and Establishments Acts and Professional Tax requirements.

Assist in mapping Central and State-specific compliance requirements to internal HR processes.

2. Policy Drafting & Indian Compliance

Assist in updating the Employee Handbook to ensure compliance with the Standing Orders Act and local leave policies.

Support the POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) Committee with administrative tasks, awareness posters, and documentation of training sessions.

Draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for grievance redressal as per the Industrial Disputes Act.

3. Compliance Auditing & Payroll Support

Perform audits of employee files to ensure mandatory documentation (Aadhaar, UAN, PAN, nomination forms) is complete.

Review job descriptions to ensure alignment with Code on Wages definitions (e.g., distinguishing between 'Worker' and 'Employee' categories).

Assist with "Statutory Health Checks" including EPF, ESI, and Gratuity record-keeping.

4. Training & Education

Help design internal training materials for managers on the POSH Act and the Maternity Benefit Act.

Prepare FAQs on Indian tax deductions (TDS) and social security benefits to help employees understand their pay slips.

5. Employee Relations & Onboarding

Support the HR team in drafting offer letters and employment contracts that comply with the latest Indian judicial precedents.

Ensure all exit formalities align with statutory requirements for full and final (F&F) settlements.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed an MBA (HR), Master of Labour Studies (MLS), or LLB.

Legal Literacy: Foundational knowledge of Indian Labour Laws (e.g., Factories Act, EPF Act, ESI Act, POSH Act, and Payment of Bonus Act).

Attention to Detail: High level of precision in reviewing statutory registers and employee records.

Confidentiality: Absolute discretion in handling sensitive employee data and PII (Personally Identifiable Information).

Communication: Strong writing skills in English; proficiency in Hindi or other regional languages is an added advantage for interpreting local state rules.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this internship, the candidate will have:

Developed a practical understanding of how Indian Labour Laws translate into corporate policy.

Gained experience in risk mitigation, statutory filing processes, and HR auditing.

Built a portfolio of drafted policies and compliance communication materials.

Learned the complexities of managing compliance across different Indian states.
