Job description
🐶 Our mission
Every pet should get the care they need, regardless of cost. Vet med prices are up 40% since 2020, and pet owners are stuck having to pick between their bank account and furry friend. At Snout, we aim to solve this by enabling clinics to offer wellness plans that actually work.
🚀 The opportunity
Snout is one of the fastest growing wellness plan providers in the veterinary space, trusted by clinics across the U.S. We’re a small but mighty startup team of <50 employees. We're looking for our first Head of Product, someone who can build and lead the function, hire and grow a team, and turn our strong, early product into a durable platform and smooth user experience for both pet parents and clinics.
💻 The role
As Head of Product, you'll own Snout's product strategy and roadmap end to end, from internal to clinic facing tools, to the pet parent experience. You'll partner directly with our CEO and leadership team to translate company strategy into a product vision the whole company can rally around, and you'll build the team and process to execute on it. This is a builder's role: part strategist, part operator, part manager. You'll be the first product leader here, which means you'll be defining not just what we build, but how we build.
Your team will shape how clinics discover and manage Snout plans, how pet parents discover, enroll in, and manage their plans, and how both experience the product at every stage of their journey. You’ll ensure Snout's product experience and growth engine operate as one unified system, using AI and data to make each touchpoint smarter over time. You'll also oversee our internal product tools. It's a rare chance to define the product function at Snout and build the systems behind it from the ground up.
If you think in roadmaps but ship like a founder, we'd love to hear from you!
Snout is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We know that great candidates may not check every box — and that’s okay. If you're excited about this role and our mission, we encourage you to apply if you meet at least 75% of qualifications including the first bullet. If you need any accommodations during the application or interview process, please let us know — we’re happy to support you.
🛠 What you’ll do
- Own Snout's product strategy and roadmap, balancing clinic-facing tools, the pet parent experience, and the core platform that connects them
- Set OKRs and the bar for how we scope, ship, and measure impact
- Partner with engineering, design, GTM, and CX leadership to turn strategy into a roadmap the whole company can plan around
- Build the product operating rhythm from scratch: discovery, prioritization frameworks, sprint cadence, and how we decide what not to build
- Represent product in front of leadership and the board, translating usage data and market signals into a clear narrative about where Snout is headed
- Create a product management playbook, building a function that can scale well past Series A
- Hire, manage, mentor/coach product managers and grow a lean but high performing product team
💡What we're looking for
- 7+ years in product management, including experience managing and developing other product managers
- A track record of building or scaling a product function inside an early or growth-stage startup, ideally Series A to Series C
- Experience owning a multi-sided product (marketplace, B2B2C, or platform) where you had to balance competing user needs
- Strong technical fluency: you can go deep with engineering on architecture tradeoffs and speak credibly to a technical roadmap
- Problem solving using first principles and comfort operating with real ambiguity and thin resources, and the judgment to know what deserves rigor and what doesn't
- A collaborative leadership style that earns trust across GTM, CX, and engineering, and not just within product
🌟 What will make you stand out
- Prior experience as a first or founding product hire at an early-stage startup
- Background in health tech, insurance, fintech, or another regulated or trust-driven category
- Experience building products for two distinct audiences at once (for example, a B2B customer and their end consumer)
- Fluency with AI-assisted development and prototyping tools, and a point of view on where AI belongs in the product itself
💖 Why you should join Snout
- Fast growing, venture capital backed technology company focused on improving access to veterinary care
- Ability to have a meaningful impact from Day 1, where your voice and opinion matters
- Unlimited potential to grow in your career, learn and expand your skillsets
- Collaborative, flexible, and friendly culture
❌ Why this role might not be a fit for you
- You don’t live near an airport or have the flexibility to travel quarterly
- You want an established product org with playbooks already in place, rather than the chance to write them
- You're looking for an IC-heavy role rather than one focused on building and leading a team
- The pace and uncertainty of startup life feels destabilizing rather than energizing
- You haven't managed people before, or you're looking to step back from management rather than lean into it
- You don't have a connection to animals or an affinity for our mission
💸 Compensation
- $180 000 - $250 000 base salary
- Equity
⚕️Benefits
- Day 1 medical/dental/vision benefits
- Flexible time off + 11 Snout calendar holidays
- Paid parental leave
