Job description

Royal Ocean Marine is looking for an experienced and visionary Head of Marine Safety to lead and oversee all aspects of marine safety within our organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the company's marine safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with international regulations and to promote a culture of safety across all vessels and operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company’s marine safety management system in accordance with international maritime regulations and industry best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, standards, and certifications, including IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, and ISM Code.
  • Lead safety risk assessments, audits, and inspections across the fleet and marine operations to identify hazards and promote corrective actions.
  • Provide expert guidance and training to crew members, shore-based staff, and management on marine safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
  • Investigate marine safety incidents and accidents, prepare detailed reports, and recommend preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies, classification societies, and other stakeholders to stay updated on evolving safety regulations and technologies.
  • Drive a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement within the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field.
  • At least 8 to 10 years of experience in marine safety management roles, with proven leadership capabilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of international maritime safety regulations and compliance standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead teams and liaise with external stakeholders.
  • Relevant certifications such as COC Class 1, or equivalent maritime safety qualifications are highly desirable.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to travel as required for audits, inspections, and training across the fleet.
