General Manager

The General Manager is responsible for overseeing operations staff and managing relationships with various labor unions. This role works closely with the customer, SSA Marine’s Leadership Team, and SSA’s HSE Department to support safe, efficient, and effective operations. The General Manager is accountable for hiring, training, coaching, and disciplining direct reports, up to and including termination when necessary. In addition, the General Manager develops operational initiatives, evaluates staff efficiency, and creates strategic business plans aligned with company goals. The role also includes reviewing monthly P&L statements to monitor financial performance and support informed decision-making.

• Supervise direct reports to ensure work is completed consistently and in alignment with organizational requirements, standards, and goals.
• Partner with the Regional Vice President in negotiating contracts, rate increases, and related commercial matters.
• Maintain regular customer engagement to support satisfaction, strengthen relationships, and address concerns in a timely and effective manner.
• Participate in the resolution of on-the-job grievances and support effective labor relations.
• Attend LRCs, JAPCs, and other labor, operational, and business meetings on a regular basis.
• Implement approved schedule changes, policy updates, and operational directives.
• Drive continuous improvement in policies, procedures, goals, and objectives to enhance operational effectiveness.
• Ensure staff compliance with administrative policies and procedures, safety requirements, union contracts, and applicable government regulations.
• Collaborate with the HSE Department to promote safe work practices through safety audits, participation in company safety meetings, and direct engagement with staff members.
• Monitor spending to ensure expenses remain consistent with approved budgets.
• Review and analyze P&L statements to support the development of plans, policies, and budgets that improve profitability and service delivery.
• Establish and maintain operational policies and standards, including safety procedures and related operating requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
