Apply to this jobThe General Manager provides leadership and strategic direction to department heads and oversees terminal operations, including directing operations and maintenance leaders to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant performance. The General Manager is responsible for hiring, developing, coaching, and managing frontline leadership, as well as evaluating departmental effectiveness and aligning operational strategies with broader organizational objectives. This employee sets incentives for workers, appraises the efficiency of departments, and partners closely with senior leadership on strategic plans for the business based on company goals. Additionally, the General Manager is accountable for resource planning, including budgeting for labor, equipment, and operational investments.
- Responsible for the supervision of subordinate personnel to ensure that all work is accomplished in a consistent manner with organizational requirements and goals.
- Extensive knowledge and management of PCLCD (Pacific Coast Longshore Contract Document) union labor relations and workforce administration, including ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements, supporting workforce planning, and overseeing productive labor-management relationships.
- Collaborate with the marketing team in the development and execution of customer contracts and service agreements.
- Partner with Port Authorities to ensure compliance with lease obligations and maintain strong external relationships
- Engage with customers regularly to ensure service quality, strengthen relationships, and proactively address concerns.
- Support and participate in the resolution of workplace issues, including involvement in grievance discussions as appropriate
- Implement and communicate operational business needs, policies, and process updates.
- Drive continuous improvement with regard to policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
- Ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations.
- Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
- Monitor spending to ensure that expenses are within approved budgets.
- Analyze expenditures and other financial information to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits and improving services.
- Set operations policies and standards, including the determination of safety procedures.
- Responsible for financial performance, including P&L ownership, ensuring effective cost management, revenue optimization, and alignment with business objectives.
- All other duties as assigned.
