Founding Product Designer

About the Role

A seed-stage fintech startup is building a shared money account platform — think collaborative finance for roommates, teams, clubs, travel groups, and beyond. The company is establishing its design practice from the ground up and is looking for a Founding Product Designer to own the end-to-end customer experience from day one.

This is a high-impact, high-ownership role at a small team (fewer than 10 people) that has raised a Seed round from notable fintech and early-stage investors. You'll be the first dedicated designer, shaping the visual language, interaction patterns, and UX systems that define how users experience shared finances — including onboarding, identity verification, sending money, managing permissions, and the edge cases that matter in payments.

What You'll Do

• Build the design practice from scratch — establish conventions, systems, and workflows for the product team.

• Shape the customer experience end-to-end across onboarding, identity flows, sending and managing money, and payments-related edge cases.

• Lead product design through the full lifecycle: discovery, user research, prototyping, and high-fidelity execution.

• Collaborate closely with engineering and product to ship polished, well-considered experiences quickly.

• Bring a strong point of view on how AI-assisted design tools are changing the craft and put that thinking to work day-to-day.

What We're Looking For

Required

• 2+ years of experience in a product design role.

• Hands-on experience designing fintech or payments products — specifically onboarding flows and money movement UX.

• Familiarity with design-focused AI tools and a perspective on how they'll evolve day-to-day design work.

• Strong fundamentals in visual design and problem-solving.

• Based in California — candidates outside of California will not be considered at this time.

Nice to Have

• Formal education in design or a related field (not required).

• Experience working at a similarly early-stage startup or building a design practice from zero.

• Background at consumer fintech, payments, or financial services companies.

Tools

• Figma (primary design tool)

This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco, CA. Candidates must be located in California.
