Ambient specialises in providing services for older adults and adults with learning difficulties and mental health needs. We work with a diverse client group both within the community and in our accommodation services. This role sits within our Community Engagement and Inclusion Services.

The Community Engagement and Inclusion Services consists of Branching Out Horticulture Project, Credo ceramics workshops and Harmony singing group. These services are funded through various grants.

Throughout Ambient Community Engagement and Inclusion Services the emphasis is on the provision of high-quality services which respond to the needs of participants, and seeks to maintain dignity, privacy and freedom of choice for each individual and supports their wellbeing through connection and creative activity.

Role Description

The role of the Flexi Credo Assistant is to support the Credo team in building a trusting relationship with students to maintain and improve their quality of life through engaging in ceramics and the creative arts process to increase independence, confidence, connection and wellbeing. Some of the people we work with have a range of physical health needs in addition to their mental health needs who might need more practical support to engage fully in the group learning process.

The emphasis for the Community Engagement and Inclusion Services is on enabling people to achieve their goals: this means making time to listen to what students want and involving them in planning and reviewing their ceramic work. Progress towards identified goals is measured through individually tailored learning plans which are reviewed regularly. All of this will take place within the framework of the recovery and wellbeing concept.

On occasions the Flexi Credo Assistant will be required to step in and lead on delivering ceramic workshops. This will usually be when the Coordinator is on leave.

Main Duties**

The Flexi Credo Assistant will assist the Coordinator as required in ensuring the smooth running of the service. This may include: -

  • Working with students in workshop learning activities
  • Working with students on agreed objectives identified in their learning plan
  • Understanding and using administrative systems and procedures, such as record-keeping systems, housekeeping, stock taking and petty cash systems
  • Attendance at meetings as required, such as hand-over, staff meetings, project meetings and supervision meetings
  • Reporting any unsafe practices or equipment, in line with Health & Safety requirements
  • Working in a professional manner and maintaining professional boundaries to ensure and effective and safe learning environment for individuals and groups

The list of duties is not exhaustive, as actual duties will depend on the learner group and staffing complement. Duties may be varied by the Coordinator.

Experience: ceramics: 1 year (Preferred)
Education: A-Level or equivalent (Preferred)
