The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, debug and resolve complex modem L3 RRC protocol issues and blocker bugs from field, internal testing, and carrier certifications to optimize call and sound quality, control plane performance KPIs, and stability.
  • Identify and design the approach to reproduce key control plane performance issues in live/lab environments to survey and drive more optimized solutions.
  • Design comprehensive evaluations to ensure modem software meets carrier and project feature requirements for call and sound performance and quality.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams and external vendors to drive end-to-end resolution of complex, cross-boundary issues.
  • Implement AI-driven strategies to automate issue analysis, testing, and process optimization.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in protocol stack engineering (e.g., RRC) and coding in C, C++, or Python.
  • Experience in protocol stack engineering and integration across layers (e.g., L1, L2, or Non-Access Stratum).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and familiar with 3gpp L3/RRC protocol and have the experience or interest in RRC and Call/ Control Plane Performance debugging and enhancement.
  • AI Agent automation experience for issue debugging.
  • Familiar with programming, scripting, or engineering automation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, self-sustaining and self-motivation at work.
