Abbott has been operating in Ireland since 1946 and serves the Irish market with a diverse range of healthcare products including diagnostics, diabetes care, medical devices and nutritional products. Abbott Ireland Diabetes Care Division Donegal

The Abbott Diabetes Care division based in Donegal Town manufactures FreeStyle blood glucose test strips and FreeStyle Sensors for use in diabetes management. Among Abbott Diabetes Care leading brands are the FreeStyle Precision, FreeStyle Lite and FreeStyle Libre system.

Role Purpose

The Financial Analyst will support business performance through advanced financial analysis, data modelling, and the automation of reporting processes. This role is pivotal in moving the function away from its current reliance on manual, non-automated activities, and toward a more streamlined and efficient way of working.  By introducing data-driven insights and automation solutions, the role will significantly enhance the speed, accuracy and impact of financial reporting and decision-making

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Analysis & Business Partnering

  • Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting, forecasts, and variance analysis

  • Partner with operational teams to translate performance data into actionable financial insights

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes

  • Identify key business drivers and build financial models to reflect them

  • Challenge assumptions and provide data-driven recommendations

2. Data Analytics & Insights

  • Analyse large datasets to identify trends, risks, and opportunities

  • Develop interactive dashboards and visualisations using tools such as Power BI etc

  • Build and enhance data models to improve performance tracking

  • Perform ad hoc analysis to inform strategic and commercial decision-making

  • Apply statistical and analytical techniques to strengthen forecasting accuracy

3. Automation & Process Improvement

  • Drive the automation of recurring financial reports, replacing existing manual, time-intensive processes

  • Identify legacy reporting and analysis activities that can be streamlined or eliminated

  • Automate recurring financial reports using tools such as:

    • Excel (Power Query, Power Pivot, VBA)

    • Power BI / Power Automate

    • Python / SQL (where applicable)

  • Identify manual processes and implement automation solutions

  • Standardise and optimise finance workflows to improve efficiency, consistency and scalability

  • Collaborate with IT / data teams to enhance data architecture and availability

4. Data Governance & Quality

  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity of financial data

  • Design and maintain appropriate checks and controls within automated processes

  • Maintain documentation for models, reports, and automation solutions

5. Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Support implementation and enhancement of ERP and reporting systems

  • Contribute to finance transformation initiatives, with a focus on digitisation and automation

  • Stay current with emerging tools and analytics techniques

  • Promote a data-driven and automation-first culture within the finance function

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Data Analytics, or related field

Professional Qualifications (Preferred but not essential)

  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA (or working towards)

  • Data analytics certifications (e.g., Microsoft, Tableau, Python) are advantageous

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Excel (including Power Query and Power Pivot)

  • Strong experience with Power BI (or similar BI tools)

  • Working knowledge of SQL and/or Python (desirable)

  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
