Job description

About Origin

Origin (previously 10xConstruction) is building general-purpose autonomous robots for US construction to tackle rising costs, safety risks, and labour shortages. Our modular, multi-trade platform combines purpose-built hardware with real-time site intelligence to navigate complex environments and execute tasks with precision. Trained in high-fidelity simulation and already deployed on live sites, our robots deliver 5x faster execution, 250%+ margin expansion, and significant cost savings. Join India's most talent-dense robotics team, made up of individuals from IITs, Stanford, UCLA, and more.

About the Role

As Origin's first finance hire, you will build and scale the company's finance function across its three global entities as the company ramps hardware production and scales its commercial deployment. The role owns the end-to-end finance stack — accounting and monthly close, FP&A, treasury and consolidated cash management, import/export documentation and cross-border transaction flows, tax and statutory compliance, internal controls, and board and investor reporting — turning business activity into accurate, decision-ready financials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and lead the founding finance team across controllership, FP&A, AP/AR, payroll, and compliance.
  • Own the monthly close and produce accurate, timely books under Ind AS / applicable GAAP.
  • Drive the finance-side ERP rollout end-to-end — selection, implementation, chart of accounts, approval matrix, and procure-to-pay, integrated with Supply Chain's inventory/ERP.
  • Run FP&A — operating plan, budgets, rolling forecasts, scenario models, and cash-runway tracking.
  • Own consolidated cash flow and treasury across all three entities — inter-company funding, banking, and FX.
  • Own import/export documentation and cross-border transaction flows — customs, trade documents, Letters of Credit, remittances, and reconciliation.
  • Ensure cross-border regulatory and tax compliance — GST, TDS, income tax, transfer pricing, FEMA, RBI, IGCR, and ROC/MCA filings.
  • Identify and maximize government incentives and grants — PLI, export incentives (RoDTEP, duty drawback, EPCG, SEZ/EOU), and startup/R&D grants.
  • Partner with Supply Chain on BOM cost, inventory accounting, COGS, working capital, and TCO.
  • Build board and investor reporting — MIS, burn, runway, unit economics, and KPIs.
  • Establish internal controls and financial governance; lead the annual statutory audit and manage auditors and advisors.
  • Support fundraising — data room, financial models, cap table, diligence, and ESOP administration.
  • Manage end-to-end payroll across two entities — including US payroll and statutory withholding — ensuring compliance with US labour laws and local employment regulations.
  • Document finance SOPs and develop a talent bench to support scale without redesign.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • MUST HAVE: Has owned the full monthly-close cycle end-to-end.
  • MUST HAVE: Has worked in a cross-border commerce, import/export, or international trade business — hands-on with trade documentation and cross-border transaction flows.
  • Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, or equivalent; 3–8 years of finance experience.
  • Deep knowledge of Ind AS / IFRS / US GAAP, statutory compliance, and direct & indirect taxation.
  • Multi-entity, cross-border finance experience — Letters of Credit, FX, transfer pricing, FEMA / RBI in practice.
  • Fluent in managing payroll across multiple entities, including US payroll, withholding, and familiarity with US labour and employment laws.
  • Well-versed with government incentive frameworks — PLI, export incentives, duty drawback / RoDTEP, EPCG, SEZ / EOU, and startup / R&D grants.
  • Strong business acumen — fluent in unit economics, gross margin, working capital, runway, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
  • Strong people leadership; comfortable operating at both strategic and tactical levels, with high integrity in a fast-moving startup.

Core Skills

  • FP&A — budgeting, forecasting, and runway modeling
  • Consolidated cash flow and treasury management
  • Internal controls, governance, and tax & regulatory compliance
  • Cost accounting, inventory, TCO, and should-cost analysis
  • Import/export documentation and cross-border transaction flows
  • Team building and leadership; fundraising and investor relations support
  • Advanced Excel, financial modeling, and executive communication

Preferred Experiences

  • Supporting fundraising rounds — data rooms, diligence, investor reporting, and financial models.
  • Managing multi-entity / cross-border finance structures.
  • Manufacturing, inventory-heavy, hardware, EV, deep-tech, or cross-border commerce businesses with EXIM operations.
  • Hands-on ERP / accounting system rollout (SAP, Oracle NetSuite, Zoho Books, Tally, QuickBooks).
  • ESOP / equity administration; prior exposure to robotics, drones, EV, or emerging hardware.
