Job description
PlusAI is a Physical AI company pioneering AI-based virtual driver software for factory-built autonomous trucks. Headquartered in Silicon Valley with operations in the United States and Europe, Plus was named by Fast Company as one of the World’s Most Innovative Companies. Partners including TRATON GROUP’s Scania, MAN, and International brands, Hyundai Motor Company, Iveco Group, Bosch, and DSV are working with Plus to accelerate the deployment of next-generation autonomous trucks. If you’re ready to make a huge impact and drive the future of autonomy, Plus is looking for talented individuals to join its fast-growing teams.
As a Field Service Engineer, you will leverage your experience and knowledge to help continue building the Field Engineering team’s processes and procedures that integrate and maintain Plus’s autonomous vehicle technology on internal and customer vehicles. The role supports autonomous vehicle testing and deployment with a comprehensive focus on remote monitoring, real-time intervention, and data logging. You will provide hands-on vehicle readiness for complex demo drives and fleet maintenance activities. Specifically, you will support testing by riding in the vehicle to actively monitor system performance and sensor health, execute live testing and mileage accumulation, rapidly troubleshoot issues that arise in the field, and document all findings through daily reports and actionable engineering tickets for cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Support autonomous vehicle testing by operating and riding in Class 8 (semi-trucks) or equivalent vehicles to actively monitor system performance, execute live testing, and accumulate mileage.
- Provide hands-on vehicle readiness for complex demonstrations and fleet maintenance activities, ensuring all systems and sensors are operational.
- Work onsite during system installation and field deployment Act as the main point of contact for third-party installers and customers/end-users.
- Willingness and ability to travel more than 60%, including weekends, as required to support field operations.
- Rapidly troubleshoot and resolve novel or complex technical issues impacting autonomous vehicle systems, including hardware, software, and electrical subsystems.
- Analyze data from engineering drawings, databases, and field actions to consolidate and escalate reliability issues to the engineering team in a concise and actionable manner.
- Collaborate with engineering to develop and document real-time mitigation actions, long-term containment options, and corrective/preventative measures.
- Meticulously document all troubleshooting and return-to-service actions, including findings from daily reports and testing, by creating and updating actionable engineering tickets.
- Create and maintain standardized installation and repair documentation (SOPs), focusing on making all programming, calibration, and testing procedures reliable and repeatable for service partners and technicians.
- Interpret engineering changes (e.g., deviations, change orders) and create clear, comprehensive procedures for implementing these changes in field environments such as warehouses, repair shops, and customer locations.
Required Skills:
- BS or MS in a STEM-related field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, etc.), or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Relevant work experience involving analysis, engineering, or technical system testing, preferably within the automotive or autonomous vehicle industry.
- Strong technical proficiency with Linux command line and experience using software version control systems (e.g., GIT).
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker), scripting languages (Python, Bash), and automotive software-based diagnostic systems.
- Experience with collaboration tools such as Google Workspace and Atlassian (Jira/Confluence).
- Demonstrated ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work as a self-starter in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment and take on increased responsibility.
- Must be capable of safely lifting up to 80+ lbs and repeatedly entering/exiting vehicles as large as Class 8 (semi-trucks).
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to rent a car for business travel.
