Employees are responsible for performing both field and office work in the County Electrical Inspection Program. Duties require technical examinations and the application of standard trade practices to inspection work.</div><br><ul> <li>Inspects electrical installations in new and old buildings during construction and upon completion. </li><li>Examines buildings for hazardous electrical conditions and reports same. </li><li>Advises contractors and homeowners on electrical installations. </li><li>Performs related work as required.</li></ul><ul><li>Knowledge of the provisions of the&nbsp;National Electrical Code and ordinances; or ability to acquire this knowledge.</li><li>Knowledge of the methods and practices involved in constructing, installing, maintaining, and operating a variety of electrical installations, equipment, and appliances.</li><li>Knowledge of possible defects and faults in electrical wiring, appliances, and of standard testing devices and effective corrective measures.</li><li>Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications of electrical installations.</li><li>Ability to enforce codes and regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially.</li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with builders, contractors, and the general public.</li><li>Ability to detect faults and the knowledge of when defects are most easily found and remedied.</li><li>Ability to use a computer.</li><li><span style="color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-align: left; text-indent: 0">Ability to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects.&nbsp;</span></li></ul><p><strong>PHYSICAL SKILLS:</strong> Ability to lift and/or move up to&nbsp;45 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects.&nbsp;May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects.&nbsp;Requires working indoors and outdoors. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle to visit job sites. Must be able to walk, stoop, bend, and climb to make inspections. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.</p><p><strong>EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:</strong> Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Applicants must have five (5) years of experience in the electrical construction trade as a supervisor, foreman, electrical contractor, or licensed journeyman. This experience must be verifiable and signed off by a contractor, engineer or architect or they will not qualify to apply for the provisional Electrical Inspector license.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: &nbsp;</strong>Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Applicants must obtain provisional license as an Electrical Inspector within 120 days of hire. Applicants must have five (5) years of verified experience, signed off by a contractor, engineer or architect to be able to qualify to be provisionally licensed as an Electrical Inspector and to take the inspector examination.
